Individual Psychodynamic Counselling in Cheltenham and Gloucester

A warm welcome to my website

Hello, I'm Mary Crowley and I'd really like to welcome you to my counselling practice.

I've been counselling in Gloucestershire for over 18 years and have been very privileged to share this uniquely personal journey with many clients. I hope you too will find a way to give yourself the time and opportunity to receive the understanding and support that will help you turn things around.

I really do understand just how difficult it can be making this first step - I wonder how long you've spent browsing before finding the courage to reach out for the support you deserve. Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed by life's events or are finding it hard to imagine that things will ever change.

Coming along and spending some time in a safe, quiet space, free from judgement and criticism, to talk about what's on your mind may be the very thing to help you through this challenging time. Don't hesitate to contact me by email or by phone on 07544 501212 I'll be happy to help.

Counselling offers a safe and confidential space to explore thoughts and feelings

Why come to counselling?

Are you experiencing relationship difficulties or suffering from stress? Or perhaps you are suffering with anxiety, depression or panic attacks or simply feeling sad. Has something happened - recently or in the past - that's affecting how things are for you now? Maybe you want to make some changes but feel stuck in destructive patterns ?

Sometimes its hard to talk, but saying things out loud to a professionally trained counsellor can often make you feel less isolated and overwhelmed. Counselling offers a confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings safely.

My approach

My counselling approach will guide you through these explorations with the greatest of care, respect and understanding, helping you understand what it is that may be affecting you and negotiating a healthier way to deal with it.

I work psycho-dynamically; looking at the bigger picture - especially the ways in which present difficulties may be connected to events or relationships that occurred in the past. Sometimes we unconsciously repeat these old patterns and understanding the origins of our thoughts and feelings can help us to approach life differently enabling the possibility for positive change and choice in our lives.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost?

My current fee is £45.00 per session. In some circumstances I may be able to offer a reduction in cost.

Is your counselling service confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is of the utmost importance.

I adhere to the requirements of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) ethical framework for the counselling profession. You will be treated respectfully at all times.

What will happen at the first appointment?

The first assessment session is an opportunity for you to talk about what you hope to achieve for yourself by coming into counselling and what the issues are as you see them.

It will also give me the opportunity to ask you questions about yourself in order to see if what I can offer is appropriate for your needs. Where I feel I am not the right person to work with you I will endeavour to make a more appropriate referral.

How often would I have to come?

I usually see clients for one 50 minute session each week.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies a lot. Some clients find a few sessions help with a specific problem. I see other people for open ended therapy. This will be discussed in our initial consultation.

How do I pay?

I ask you to pay for your initial consultation in cash, ongoing sessions can be paid for by cash, bank transfer or cheque.

Is there a waiting room at your practice?

No.

Is it a demonstration of failure or weakness to need counselling?

No, far from being weak it is a sign of strength when we acknowledge that we need support and take the first steps towards making changes.
